PRIVACY POLICY
Last updated: June 13, 2026
Yaple ("we", "us", or "our") operates the yaple.fun debate platform. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
WHAT WE COLLECT
- Username / tag — the display name you choose when entering the arena. Stored locally on your device via localStorage.
- Debate history & stats — your match results, Elo rating, XP, win/loss record, and streaks. Stored locally on your device. If you subscribe, your subscription tier is linked to your email via Stripe.
- Email address — only if you create a paid subscription. Collected and managed by Stripe; we receive only a reference to confirm your subscription status.
- Device identifier — a random ID generated in your browser (stored in localStorage) used to count free-tier usage and track subscription conversion. Not tied to personal identity.
- Debate content — arguments you type during matches are sent to the Anthropic API for AI judging and are not stored by Yaple beyond the current session.
PAYMENT INFORMATION
Payments are processed entirely by Stripe, Inc. Yaple does not receive, store, or have access to your credit card number, CVV, or full payment details. We receive only a Stripe customer ID and subscription status to confirm your tier. Stripe's own privacy policy applies to payment data.
WEBCAM
The optional in-match camera feature accesses your webcam only while you are actively in a debate and only within your browser tab. Yaple never records, captures, transmits, or stores any webcam footage. Camera access is handled entirely by your browser and can be denied at any time.
HOW WE USE YOUR DATA
- To run and display your match history and statistics
- To enforce daily debate limits by tier
- To process and verify your subscription
- To generate AI-judged debate verdicts via the Anthropic API
- To operate and improve the platform
THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
- Stripe — payment processing. stripe.com/privacy
- Anthropic API — AI-generated debate topics, opponent arguments, and judge verdicts. Debate content is sent to Anthropic's API during a match. anthropic.com/privacy
- Vercel — hosting and serverless infrastructure. Standard server logs (IP addresses, request metadata) may be collected by Vercel. vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy
- Upstash Redis — server-side usage counters and debate activity stats. No personally identifying data is stored in Redis beyond a hashed device ID.
COOKIES & LOCAL STORAGE
Yaple uses your browser's localStorage (not traditional cookies) to store your tag, stats, preferences (e.g. volume setting), subscription status, and session data. This data stays on your device. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.
DATA WE DO NOT SELL
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing or advertising purposes — ever.
DATA RETENTION
Data stored in localStorage is controlled by you and your browser. You can clear it at any time via your browser settings. Server-side counters (debate usage, conversion stats) are aggregated and anonymised. If you cancel your subscription, Stripe manages the associated billing data per their retention policy.
YOUR RIGHTS
- Access & deletion — you may request a summary or deletion of any data we hold about you by emailing us.
- Subscription management — cancel, upgrade, or downgrade at any time via your billing portal (Settings → Manage billing).
- Opt-out of analytics — because all stats are localStorage-only, you can clear them yourself via your browser at any time.
